It was so much fun to organize this sweet little first birthday party! Our theme was “You Are My Sunshine” and the colors were pink and yellow with bright colors, pastels, and a touch of gold. We used local vendors and shops on Etsy and found beautiful decorations that exceeded our expectations! I’ve linked each vendor at the bottom of the post.

One thing that’s a bit different about the first birthday is that I got the opportunity to pick the theme. I’m assuming I’ll have to work with my child’s preferences from now on, but it was fun to look at so many different theme options. The party was held in early November. I looked closely at a few different pumpkin themes and a cute daisy theme as a close runner-up. I kept going back to the sun theme because I wanted a reason to use yellow and I loved how simple and direct this theme was. It was surprisingly easy to find all sorts of decorations when searching for yellow and pink party supplies.

Our daughter’s birthday party was originally going to be a small family gathering, but we ended up traveling to Murphy, TX for a family wedding during the weekend of her birthday. Since both sets of grandparents and other relatives were already in town, we decided to host the party in Texas at my in-law’s house. It was a busy weekend trying to plan around the wedding and coordinating with vendors while out-of-town, but we got everything set up just in time.

I ordered the backdrop behind the dessert table and the cake and cupcake toppers from Esty. I was fine to set up the dessert table myself, but I didn’t have the time needed to make any balloon decorations. I contracted a balloon service ahead of time to deliver a balloon arch and backdrop to us. WowBalloons also made a wooden sign, which we are keeping to use in Holland’s bedroom in the future. The balloons and backdrop were perfect and gave us a great place to take family pictures.

A few other decorations I brought were displayed near the front door. I saw the baby month’s banner online and couldn’t resist the opportunity to create one for Holland. I also had two wooden photo plaques created with small easels to hold them. These were special because each set of grandparents got to keep one after the party as a thank you gift! Lastly, I made a photo book with memories of Holland’s first year. The book was made for myself and for Holland when she’s older, but it was great to show family members pictures since many had not been able to meet her as a newborn.

I saw so many cute first birthday outfits for baby girls, but I wanted to keep it casual since we were just dressed up for a wedding the evening before. I found cute matching mom and baby sunshine shirts on Etsy and Reed had a shirt that coordinated with us. Holland also wore tutu leggings from Baby Gap and a headband and shoes I found on Amazon.

I did not include all of the pictures of the food, but we did a brunch party with catering from Kolache Factory and loved all of their pastries, savory croissants, and a variety of Kolaches. We also bought fruit and veggie trays, chips, sodas, coffee, and a charcuterie board.

What made the party worth it was seeing how happy Holland was when we all sang happy birthday to her. She completely lit up! It was so sweet and a moment I’ll never forget! I can’t wait for her to look back on these pictures one day and know how much her family loves her.

Happy Birthday, sweet Holland! Your dad and I love you so much and are thankful that we could celebrate your first birthday together with loved ones. You have been a light to us since the day we learned that you were on the way. You’ll always be our little sunshine, precious baby.
