Baby Holland is giving away our destination! I thought it would be sweet to get her a book for her first vacation.

Back and Hopeful for 2021

Our plans last year just barely happened! We made some flight changes and ended up making it to our Asia destinations right before travel halted due to Covid-19. We stayed in Colorado for the rest of the year taking small trips into the mountains.

Even with all of the travel changes in 2020, I’ve been hoping to go on a trip in 2021. Reed and I have tried our best to plan a trip during my maternity leave so we can go somewhere with our daughter before I return to working full time. I would like to take her to a destination that’s warm enough for her to play outside, but I go back to work at the end of April.

Our initial plan was to go to Kauai in March and spend 5 nights at the Grand Hyatt Kauai. Reed and I had both used a credit card promotion to earn Hyatt points and combined our points to book our stay. The travel restrictions to Kauai have remained more strict compared to some of the other Hawaiian Islands. We looked into the new rules regarding the bubble resorts, but we ultimately decided to cancel the trip.

Plan B – A Different Island

After taking a closer look at travel rules on other islands, we felt more confident with trying to visit Maui. We put our Hyatt points to stay at the Hyatt Regency Maui. I used a promotion with American Express to get Delta miles and received enough miles to book flights from Denver to Maui for myself and Reed. I used a 25% off discount code to book a return flight for both of us through American Airlines.

Will This Work?

Reed and I will both need negative COVID tests taken within 72 hours or less before our flight to Maui. It seems like the rules for travel could change at any moment, so I am hopeful that we can go but also understand that our plans might not be possible. I also have a 4-month old and I am doing my best to research how to travel with her. We have planned the trip jointly with my parents to have some help with our little one. To say I am nervous about traveling with an infant is an understatement, but it mostly has to do with making sure she’s as comfortable as possible.

Tentative Plans

If this vacation happens it will be our main trip for 2021. We are also planning to do some hiking and day-trips into the mountains near our home in Colorado over the summer. I’m excited to try kid-friendly activities and starting writing about my experiences with our baby. I’ll keep this post updated as we attempt to plan a trip for this spring and if we can’t fly we’ll try out some new things near home.

I think the book was a hit! I hope she can have a very tiny taste of some Shave Ice in Hawaii.
