Lauren & Reed: Our Wedding at House Estate
How can I start documenting life after marriage without mentioning the wedding? We’ve got to start somewhere, so here’s a recap of our wedding day on 5.3.2014 at House Estate.
There were definitely some stressful situations leading up to wedding day. I’ll get to those later. For now, this is the overall feeling that I took away from our wedding.
To describe it in one word, our wedding day was magic. It was like we traveled somewhere isolated in time where love, family, and friendship erupted into one and the universe was as it should be. There are rare occurrences in life where that kind of feeling happens and when it does, you are certain that it’s one of the highlighting moments in your life that’s meant to be treasured. The day we married was certainly full of those moments.

The wedding and reception were held at House Estate. The venue was a historic farm house built in the late 1800s. The home was still owned by the original family; complete with old family pictures and a vintage charm we were immediately drawn to. We adorned the hearth and piano with some of our own family photos for the big day.
My mom, the woman I’m closest to in this world, played a major role in all of the wedding plans. It was surreal to see everything we spent so much time organizing come together. The photographer snapped a couple creative shots while she helped me dress.
First Look:
We decided to do a first look and it was completely worth it! I cannot recommend this enough! We were able to get the majority of the pictures out of the way before the ceremony, which allowed for a nice and short cocktail hour and prompt start to the reception.
Ceremony & Reception:
Before we knew it, the pre-wedding pictures were over and it was time to go and hide from the guests till the ceremony. This is when the nerves started to build!
I spent much time crafting little signs and decorative details to add personal touches to the place. I’m excited to share that our wedding favors, koozies and sunglasses went over pretty well, especially the glasses. I have some friends over a year later still representing our wedding shades.
We slipped away for a while after the ceremony to take everything in. I felt so much relief the minute we were pronounced husband and wife. Post-ceremony, all I wanted to do was celebrate and enjoy the evening; so much so that I let my hair down. Literally, I just took out the bobby pins and let it go.
I think I’m doing everyone a favor by leaving out the many unattractive dancing pics. Let’s just leave it at we all had a great time. Here’s one dance pic… what a night.
And nearly as soon as it began, the wedding was over. Where did the night go? It was wonderful. It was memorable. It was simply, magic.
To everyone who attended our wedding, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for creating memories with us that will last a lifetime. As we go about our busy lives, Reed and I are so thankful that we will always have this wonderful day to reflect on.
