I can check this one off my Bucket list!  We went to Saint Lucia for our honeymoon and it was incredible! My account of the vacation discusses the Sandals Resorts, which are a great option for a romantic stay. I am very fortunate to not have pricing because this trip was a gift, but future vacation posts will include pricing for airfare, hotel, and activities.

Hurray, we’re newlyweds! One week after the wedding, we traveled to St. Lucia for our honeymoon.

After landing and clearing customs, we went to the Sandals lounge in the airport to wait for a shuttle. (If you get car sick, this may be a good time to take Dramamine). The roads are thin and winding. The ride to the resort was about 40 minutes.

We arrive at our resort, Sandals Halcyon Beach. Checked in, found our room, paradise! I’ve been to most of the Hawaiian Islands, Cozumel, and Jamaica, and St. Lucia is certainly a true tropical paradise. The water is a deep aqua color and the land is picturesque with lush green mountains. The resort was full of gardens and little secluded sitting areas.

The grounds were full of huge flowering plants.

There are 3 separate Sandals resorts on the Island and they are all a 15 minute ride away! Exploring the 3 resorts was one of my favorite aspects of the trip! We shuttled over to the other resorts in the evening, walked around, got drinks at the bar, and had dinner at one of the restaurants.

Each resort had a unique atmosphere. Here’s the vibe I got from each one…

  • Halcyon Beach– the smallest one, intimate feel, full of gardens, best restaurant: Kelly’s Dockside
  • La Toc– Large, golf resort, more of a party atmosphere, best restaurant: La Toc Classic French Cuisine.
  • Grand St. Lucian– Grand, bigger bars, bigger gift shops, beautiful ocean view, best restaurant: Gordon’s on the Pier

Our Stay:

The Room:

Honeymoon room complete with “welcome home” written on the bed. Sweet!

Our room was an ocean front suite with butler service. I felt so spoiled! I’ve never had a vacation so luxurious! Our butlers provided us with a cell phone that we could use to call anytime we had requests. I’m glad I took a picture of the note they left in our room. What Service!

Honeymoon Highlights:

Breakfast on the patio:

Some mornings, we opted to have our butlers bring us breakfast so we could have a nice relaxing meal on our porch. We enjoyed egg white omelets and tea while gazing at the sea.

The Nearby Island:

There was a small island just off of Halcyon Beach that I couldn’t help but want to explore! We kayaked over and did a little hiking. We discovered some remains of buildings, so weathered that we couldn’t identify their purpose. The tiny Island was rustic and had some alluring caves. We also ran into some wildlife, a St. Lucia Whiptail, to be exact!

There’s something so calming about exploring nature and staring out into the open sea. I’m so glad we took advantage to checking out this little serene island!

Saint Lucia Drink:

I can’t leave out the single most amazing drink that I probably had one too many of. It’s called a BBC (banana, Baileys, and cream of coconut). It’s thick, filling, and perfect for spending hours poolside. It really doesn’t need any whipped cream on top either, it’s delicious without it! Sadly, I have not been able to get this drink since returning to the United States, but I did find an online recipe. Here’s the link for it:

Seeing the Pitons:

St. Lucia is famous for its Pitons, the two striking peaks located on the southwest side of the island. From boat tours to hiking the tallest peak, there are multiple excursions you can book that involve the Pitons. We chose a boat/snorkel/sightseeing one.

On the excursion, we toured the coastline, took pictures of the Pitons, and even saw a cuttlefish while snorkeling! Here are some pics of Marigot Bay:

The excursion included getting off the boat halfway through to see a waterfall and have a mud bath in the Sulfur Springs. This part I could have skipped. Nobody mentioned that if you’re the least bit sunburned the mud bath will sting! It was all still interesting though.

The best part of the tour was seeing the Pitons. The boat came around a bend, and all of a sudden the stunning Pitons stood before us! They were even more beautiful than I could have imagined!

The Food:

All around, the food was exquisite. Everything was so fresh and there was so much variety. I really enjoyed Kelly’s Dockside on Halcyon Beach and La Toc Classic French Cuisine on the La Toc resort. Our absolute favorite restaurant was Gordon’s on the Pier located at Sandal’s Grande St. Lucian.

It was pretty neat that Kelly’s Dockside was out over the water.

Gordon’s on the Pier was also out on the water, but It was much more intimate. The entire restaurant had room for about 15 couples total, and didn’t have any windows. It was the best dining experience of my life!

To get to Gordon’s you had to walk down this long dock. The little building in the right of the picture is the restaurant.

The dock was extra romantic, with a little fire-lit sitting area as you walked to your dinner destination.

stlucia29

I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and it did not disappoint! Yum!

stlucia30

You can’t see it in this pic, but the water was right there!

The Little Things That Made Our Stay Special:
While we were out at dinner, the butlers decorated our room each night with towels in cute shapes and petals on the bed. We came back to champagne and little cakes. They even left the radio on romantic music, haha! It was all cute and really made us feel like this was our honeymoon and not just any vacation.

Goodbye Saint Lucia

Overall, my husband and I loved Saint Lucia. It was hands down, the perfect honeymoon and we couldn’t have asked for anything more! I can only dream of traveling back to this wonderful Island one day. For now, I’ll reminisce of the great time I had while I save up for a future tropical getaway. Goodbye Saint Lucia, you are forever in my heart!
