Living Room & Entry Makeover: Before and After
Looking for some inspiration for your living spaces? See our once “shades of blue” home transformed with warm hardwoods and updated furnishings. Just a few changes brought life and vibrancy to this once very blue home.
In the midst of selling our first home, I can’t help but look back and get some satisfaction in seeing what it looked like before compared to now. It didn’t look necessarily bad, but the house was a little dated and in need of some revamping.
We didn’t want to do a large-scale remodel of any of our rooms. Instead, we chose to have the walls painted and had hardwood floors installed through the living areas. We painted the front door ourselves since the finish was chipping. These changes along with some decorating brought a whole new feel to the house.
Our version of the living room had a couple more pieces of furniture and a bunch of family pictures, but these were all removed to get photos for the real estate listing. Nothing makes you feel more like you’re moving than having to pack up every single personal photo to better allow someone else to envision themselves in your home.
The hardwood floors were the most expensive part of the project, and you can read more about the process of selecting and installing the flooring here.
In this home, the entryway opens up to a sunroom and formal dining space. What was once used as a treadmill spot and study space got to serve its purpose as a comfortable dining room and sitting area. I hate how bare the room looks in these pictures, but at this point, I had already removed most of our decorations for the move.
Of course, what really makes your home “yours” is adding your personal touch with photos of loved ones and special events in your life. Here are a few photos from when I had family pictures up and curtains in the dining room to give you a better idea of the decor in the house. Wreaths are one of the only crafts I make, and this one, in particular, is a favorite of mine. Hope to bring you inspiration from our sweet Texas home!
These pictures were from Reed’s 27th birthday last year, which happens during my favorite month, October! He asked me to bake some pina colada rum cakes to celebrate. I hope I’ve saved the recipe somewhere because I’m really wanting to make them again soon!
