Check-In

The sophisticated lobby was complete with a lounge area and a bar/restaurant. I felt like I was entering an exclusive club. I conveniently arrived during the Kimpton’s daily wine happy hour. the concierge asked me for my preference and brought me a glass during check-in.

My husband and I booked our room with IHG points. With Reed being a Spire Elite IHG member, we were able to receive an upgraded room upon check-in. Our standard room was upgraded to a King Delux Room, which can be up to 333 sq. feet in size compared to the standard King which ranges from about 204 to 248 sq. ft.

The Room

The hotel room was decorated in shades of blue with a minimalist design. The TV was on with the screen displaying our names. Because of Reed’s IHG status, we were welcomed with a bottle of wine, macaroons, and a hand-written thank you card. One stunning feature of the room was the view. We could look right out the window to see the beautiful Amsterdam architecture and the busy city streets below. For being in the city, I found our room to be very quiet.

Our room felt spacious and had a lounge chair, desk area, shelving, and a small closet. I had plenty of pillows to choose from and a comfortable bed. The only thing Reed and I did not like about the bed was that the duvet was a little too heavy. Luckily, the AC worked great so we set the temperature low to balance the heavy duvet. In the hotel’s defense, they probably would have offered us a lighter blanket if we’d asked.

The Bathroom

The luxury bathroom was adorned with geometric tiles and looked brand new. What I loved most about this room without question, was the awesome shower! My bathroom had a dual shower that you could switch from a hand-held jet to a rain-style overhead shower. The bathroom hardware was labeled as NK, which I believe is Noken Porcelanosa. I’m really wanting to add this shower to my bathroom, but I’m not ready to look at the price.

Items in the Room

Kimpton De Witt Robes

I found an iron and ironing board, umbrella, toiletries, and plenty of bath towels. We both received matching bathrobes. There were a few different options for coffee and tea, with a coffee pot and an electric kettle. One bottle of water was complimentary and left on the desk area in the room.

I really enjoyed having a mirror on the desk that was about 12″ in size. I was able to use it to apply my makeup each day.

There was a mini fridge with several drinks and a snack drawer both with items that could be billed. We were given a credit that could be used towards snacks, so I took the stroopwafels.

Extras

One thing I appreciated about the Kimpton was the fresh self-serve water in the lobby. It was always on ice and infused with citrus and mint. I got so thirsty walking around Amsterdam. I loved how convenient it was to make a trip to the lobby to grab a glass of cold water.

I utilized the business center to print my Keukenhof tickets. the computers and printer were located in a basement area and closed-off from the rest of the hotel. We were inside the business center just minutes before checkout. Our room keys stopped working and we had to wait for someone to show up so we could access the elevator back to the lobby. Other than our own mishap, the business center was great!

A Boutique Hotel in the City

Boutique Hotels Amsterdam

The Kimpton De Witt was located just a short walk from Amsterdam Central Station and was conveniently close to restaurants and shopping. The Kimpton was a beautiful hotel and I felt well-rested each day I stayed there. Although I didn’t take advantage of the wine-hour every day, the times I participated made my stay feel extra special. If you are looking for a trendy boutique hotel in Amsterdam, you can’t go wrong with the Kimpton De Witt.
