Finding Cheap Flights with Kayak’s Explore Tool
If you’re looking for affordable flights and need a good starting point, the Kayak Explore tool is a great way to search multiple destinations within a desired date range and price.
We’ve used this tool to book a couple of our vacation flights (first Banff, and now Amsterdam!).
For those that do not know, Kayak is a website that you can use to search flights, hotels, rental cars, and other vacation essentials.
You can find the Explore tool under the “more” tab.
In this manner, it functions similarly to many other travel websites (such as Expedia, Google Flights etc.) However, where kayak sets itself apart (in my opinion) is in its explore tool.
The explore tool can be used to search hundreds of flights to a multitude of destinations from a home airport.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can use the Kayak Explore Tool:
Searching for Flights
- Go to https://www.kayak.com/explore/ Here you will find the world map.
The main page is a world map where you can zoom to search destinations.
- Select the airport you are flying from
- Choose your date range and duration of your trip. This is a great tool if you are wanting to go on a trip and would like to choose your date based on the best flights and prices. You can also search exact dates and holidays.
- Use the sliders to set your budget and flight time.
- You also have the options to filter flights to view only nonstop options or flights with only one stop. I really prefer longer trips to have no more than one stop, so this is a wonderful option to be able to factor into my search.
After selecting the options shown in the pictures above, we have found a few budget flights to Europe from Denver in April.
Booking a Flight
- Once you have found a flight you’re interested in, click on the flight. A link will appear with the airline offering the flight and you will see a link to view the deal. This link will direct you to another Kayak page showing available flights.
- When you have found a flight that you want to book, click on the “View Deal” button. This will direct you to a page where you can book the flight.
An Easy Way to Discover Deals
Once you get the hang of browsing flights with the Kayak Explore Tool, you may find yourself searching for deals often. It’s a great way to discover new destinations that you may have thought would not fit into your budget. My husband and I like to use miles to book flights, but finding low prices with this tool helps us to book more trips and save up miles for a later vacation.
